Lesson plans and teaching resources

Proportionality
In this math-integrated lesson, students will compare the two situations - one, Mr. Toad and objects proportional to him and, two, Mr. Toad and objects proportional to humans. Students will then measure a stuffed Mr. Toad and make common objects proportional to Mr. Toad's height.

The Wind in the Willows
Designed for third grade, this extensive unit plan has 12 lessons. Students will first research the author and contribute in writing a biography on him. They will use this information to write their own autobiography. They will also learn about personification, rivers, comma use, adjectives, habitats, jury trials and poetry. The highlight of the unit is a cumulative reader's theater activity based on two chapter selections from the novel. The final assessment will consist of a cumulative notebook of writing assignments completed throughout the unit. The 25-page document includes chapter questions, vocabulary, a reader's theater script, and other supporting handouts. Adobe Reader or compatible application is required for access.
