Many English words are based on the names of gods and goddesses from ancient Greek and Roman mythology. In these units you will have a chance to explore the background to some of them.
For example, Calliope was the Greek goddess in charge of epic poetry and eloquence. Today, however, her name is often associated with a loud musical instrument often found in amusement parks.
Each unit at this site has a worksheet you can print out to show what you have learned. As you read, answer the questions on the worksheet. Be sure to put your name on it before you hand it in.
Have fun as you learn where some of our words come from!
